Police launch App for women

The city of Kanpur police have launched a mobile application for protecting of women and girl in the country's most populated city. The application is being names as 'SOS' helps a user to send alerts to family and police control room, if a women is spotted herself in a danger. Though this application is available in Google Play Store, it is very hard to locate it as there are many applications in the App Store with the same name.

The police department say they have launched this application to cut down the crime against women in the city. However, this app is only available for Android phones and the police department is working for IOS operating systems too.

Android-powered Samsung G9098 flip phone headed to China

There are flip smartphones we never hear about due to their very limited availability. Samsung has such gadgets for some Asian markets with the most notable one being the Galaxy Golden. It was released last November with dual Super AMOLED displays and Snapdragon 400 SoC.

It seems Samsung is prepping a successor of the Galaxy Golden - the SM-G9098. The device has been already certified by the Chinese TENAA regulatory and should go official very soon.

While we are yet to learn the G9098 official name, we can give you most of its key specs and features thanks to the TENAA's docs and images. The G9098 features two 3.67" WVGA displays and runs on a quad-core 2.3GHz processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

There is nothing mentioned on the processor's model, but a quad-core CPU @ 2.3GHz can mean only one thing - Snapdragon 800 chipset, right? The rest of the revealed specs are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS plus GSM with HSPA and TD-SCDMA connectivity, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The pictures of the G9098 spill the beans on even more details - the phone will come two SIM beds (3G networks support available only on the primary SIM), a microSD expansion slot and a 13MP rear camera with a LED flash.

There is nothing official on the flip G9098 yet, but we bet the official announcement should be upon us. This one most probably won't make it outside China. But honestly, we are not sure many people would have liked it anyway - even if you can live with the uninspiring screens it still is quite bulky - 16mm thick and weighs 174g.

Vodafone UK gets exclusive rights to Galaxy S5 gold color option

Vodafone UK has announced that it has acquired exclusive rights to the gold color option for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The phone was announced in four color options, the others being black, white and blue but it seems if you're in the UK and want to get the phone through a carrier then Vodafone UK is your only option.

Vodafone will have all four colors in stock and will put the phone up for pre-order starting March 28. The Galaxy S5 will go on sale worldwide (150 countries, to be precise) on April 11.

Production issues may be plaguing the Galaxy S5 camera

A new, home-brewed ISOCELL sensor is at the heart of the Samsung Galaxy S5 camera, but it turns out there's a new, complicated lens system too. Perhaps too complicated – ETNews is reporting that Samsung sees only 20-30% of the desired yield on the lenses.

The new lens is made up of six plastic elements, while the 13MP camera on the Galaxy S4 had five elements. This means one more lens has to fit into roughly the same thickness. The lenses were made thinner so they could fit, but thin lenses are more prone to fatal defects.

Defects on individual lens aside, aligning six elements properly is also causing headaches. The Korean publication says that mass production of the Samsung Galaxy S5 cannot start due to these issues. The original plan was to start making the lens last month, but the low yield is pushing back the schedule.

This isn't the first issue to hit Galaxy S5 production, a fire in a PCB factory earlier this month was rumored to reduce manufacturing capacity, only for Samsung to deny any possible shortages later.

The launch of Samsung's new flagship is set for April 11 and pre-orders are already in effect in some regions.

Leaked Pantech Vega Iron 2 is the first Snapdragon 805 smartphone

The Snapdragon 805 chipset was announced a while ago with four Krait 450 cores running at 2.5GHz and Adreno 420 graphics. It is Qualcomm's best system-on-chip to date and is expected to premiere on the next generation of flagship devices.

Somewhat surprisingly, the first deice we hear about running on the Snapdragon 805 SoC is Pantech Vega Iron 2 intended for the Korean market. The smartphone is rumored to pack a 5.5" 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear and 3MP front camera, 32/64GB storage, USB 3.0 support, LTE-A connectivity and 2,800 mAh battery.

The Vega Iron 2 is expected to come in four versions - M-A910S, M-A910K, M-A910L, and M-A910D. The last one should be carrier free and probably intended for the overseas markets (although availability is likely to be limited), while the rest will be bound to the three major carriers in South Korea.

Pantech is currently having financial difficulties dues to low sales, but this new flagship might be just what the doctor prescribed to boost the sales.
