People used to travelling unhindered across undivided Andhra Pradesh would have something new to overcome. They have to come to terms with check-posts, the first of which would come up on Friday between Telangana and its reduced parent, Andhra Pradesh.
For those used to crossing Hyderabad district freely, an inter-state barrier would seem strange. The first of the check-posts will come up on May 23 on NH 7 and NH 9, and 10 st-ate highways connecting Telangana and Hyderabad with Coa-stal and Rayalaseema districts.
A government notification Tuesday night says movement of vehicles across the “new border between the two states becomes inter-state movement.’’
“The government decided to establish check-posts between two successor states,’’ the Government Order states.
The first check-posts will come up on NH 7 on the outskirts of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and Alampur junction in Mahbubnagar in Telangana.
Others will come up at temple-town Srisailam (Kurnool, AP), Devarkonda (Guntur District, AP), Nagarjuna Sagar (Nalgonda, Telangana), Garikpadu (Krishna district, AP), Kodad (Nalgonda, Telangana), Tirvuru (Khammam, Telangana), Rajhmundry (Near Jeelugumilli, West Godavari District.)
“Transport Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh, shall take necessary action accordingly,’’ the order issued by D Lakshmi Parthsarathy, Special Chief Secretary to Government, states. Transport Commissioner Hyderabad has requested check-posts on either side of the border between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and deployment of personnel for manning them.
Many private transport operators running inter-state buses have expressed concern.
Representatives of private travel agencies have sought assurance of CM-designates K Chandrasekhara Rao of TRS in Telangana and Chandrababu Naidu of TDP in AP that bus operators would not be harassed on the basis of nativity.
