The swearing-in is done, jobs have been allocated. And on Day 1 in the office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to meet SAARC leaders. Here are the highlights of the day:
1.24 pm: Rajnath Singh, who has been appointed as the Union Home Minister, is expected to assume the charge of the Ministry on Wednesday.
1.20 pm: After taking charge as the Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley expresses concern over slowdown in decision making, adding that his top priority would be expediting modernisation.
12.42 am: Narendra Modi is meeting Pak PM Nawaz Sharif at the Hyderabad House. Ahead of the highly anticipated meeting, both the leaders briefly appeared for the press.
11.30 am: Newly-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif as well as other South Asian leaders on his first day on the job. In addition to sitting with Sharif, Modi also has brief one-on-one meetings scheduled with leaders from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Mauritius and Maldives.
10.21 am: After assuming charge as the Finance Minister of the country, Arun Jaitley says, “Taking over at a very challenging time when there is a need to restore pace of growth and contain inflation…The balancing act on inflation and interest rates will have to be done.”
10.16 am: Prime Minister Narendra Modi creates a new ministry of Ganga Rejuvenation with Uma Bharati as Cabinet minister.
9.39 am: Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai.
