Allagadda: Seemandhra voted and voted with record poll turn out. Even in Kurnool district’s Allagadda assembly segment a 78.31% voter turn out has been recorded. What is surprising here is the situation that the assembly segment went to polls.
YSRCP contestant Shobha Nagireddy died in a road mishap and it happened after the nomination withdrawal date was passed. And the Election Commission did not concede to the requests of countermand elections in the constituency saying that the YSR Congress party is a registered party but does not have recognition.
Besides, the EC declined to remove name of the deceased leader from list of contestants. Going by Shobha’s background and past history, the dynamo lady has won her seat from whichever party she has contested.
It is interesting to note that she is reckoned as Shobha akka in the region and regardless of the party she represented she has been treated with high respect. Now if she wins (which political observers are predicting) then Shobha Nagireddy would be creating history by winning an assembly election posthumously, which has never happened in the history of Independent India.
