Family, friends and fans are mourning the loss of Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams, who was found dead of an apparent suicide at 63 in his Tiburon, Calif. home on Aug. 11. Join us as we take a moment to look back on Robin’s amazing life in pictures.

There are countless reasons to love Robin Williams, from his breakout role as lovable alien Mork on Happy Days and Mork & Mindy, to his hilarious impressions in Disney’s Aladdin, to his Oscar-winning turn as Dr. Sean McGuire in Good Will Hunting.
Robin enjoyed a more than four-decade-long career as an actor, voice actor and stand-up comedian, with lead roles in acclaimed films such as Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society,Awakenings, The Fisher King, and Good Will Hunting, as well as fan favorites such as Hook,Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Birdcage, Night at the Museum, and Happy Feet.
Robin was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor three times. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Good Will Hunting, and also received two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammy Awards.
Robin made his return to television in 2013, opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in CBS’s The Crazy Ones, but the show was canceled after just one season.
Though Robin had an extremely successful and prolific career, his private life was not without troubles. The star privately battled drug and alcohol addictions for years. After being sober for 20 years, he relapsed and then checked himself into a substance-abuse rehabilitation center in August, 2006. He later confessed that he was an alcoholic.
Robin was married three times, to Valerie Velardi from 1978 to 1988, to Marsha Garces from 1989 to 2008, and to graphic designer Susan Schneider from 2011 until his death. Robin had one child from his marriage with Valerie, son Zachary Pym, and two children from his marriage with Marsha, daughter Zelda Rae and son Cody Alan.
Robin Williams Dead — Actor & Comedian Dies From Possible Suicide At 63
Robin’s death is still under investigation, although the cause is believed to be suicide by asphyxiation, according to the local coroner’s office. His publicist Mara Buxbaum issued the following statement on Aug. 11:
“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division also released a statement toHollywoodLife.com that read:
On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 am, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at 12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63 year old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA.An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.
